Fish in a tree (summary&conflict)BLOG#8

So far in my book we met Ally. In my last blog i talk about how she can't read very well. Later in the book it turns out she is dyslexia and her new substitute teacher, Mr.Daniel is helping her. He always tells her how good of a student she is is and different is better than being normal. Even though she is tired of being called "slow" and "loser" but she's afraid to ask for help. Her and her two other best -friends have been helping her out too. This book takes place in the present and she lives in a small town.  Is Ally going to get better with her reading skills?

There are many conflicts in my book but one that really stood out was Internal conflict, man Vs self. Ally has to deal with dyslexia which means she can't read well and everybody is putting pressure on her and telling her she will never read normally. She tells everybody that she can and will. For example in the book she says to her classmates, " Everybody is smart in different ways. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree it will live its life believing its stupid." This quote shows me that if you keep telling someone that they can't do it they will believe that they can't do it. This quote is also important because it shows how she knows that she can do it and she is not going to listen to what other people have to say. If she believes she can she will.

Fish In A Tree (Summary&characters) BLOG#7

In my book "Fish in a Tree" we meet six-grade ally, who has had a hard time in school. So for in my book Ally has been having trouble. She has been to many different school. Ally in school has been known as the "Loser" or "Dumb". Even the teacher's think she's a joke. She doesn't have any friends only the Principle, Keisha and Albert. This book talks place in the present and takes place in  Her current teacher Mrs.Hall is pregnant and soon going to pop. Is this new substitute teacher going to help Ally or is she going to be mean and heartless?

So for in my book I have met Ally. Ally is the main character and the story has been seen through her eyes. I think Ally is friendly and socially confident because she is friendly to all her classmates even if the bully her like Jessica and Shay. She also gave her teacher Mrs.hall a letter before she left. I know this because in the book it says," I found a bright card with yellow roses at the store. And a picture of flowers won't dry up in a week i feel like it's my way of saying I'm sorry for being such a pain all the time. " This shows how friendly she is.

In a Heartbeat (summary&conflicts)BLOG#6

So far in my book "in a Heatbeat" we met 16-year-old Eagan who recently died and donated her organs including her heart. We also met a 14-year-old girl, Amelia, who is about to receive a new heart, Eagan heart. In my last blog I talked about the characters. Eagan died during a figure-skating accident. When she died she had a lot go problems left behind. Once Amelia got her new heart weird things started to happen. She started to dream about figure skating and wanted to eat grape candy, Eagan's favorite. So she started to investigate whom the heart came from. She then started to get close with Eagan's loves ones and learned more about her. This book takes time in the present and in a small town in Arizona.

There are many conflicts going on in my book "In a Heartbeat" but one that really stuck out was an external conflict, man vs. man. When Eagan dies, she leaves with all her problems unsolved so now that she still has a beating heart but in someone else body, Amelia. Amelia needs to help Eagan in order for Eagan to move on. One problem to Eagan left unsolved was her trouble relationship with her mother. Eagan feels that her mother is too controlling and too invested in how she preform in ice skating competitions. I know this because in the text it says, " after that big mistake I did during my performance I knew my mom wasn't going to be happy. I can just see her yelling at me and spanking me." This shows how Eagan thinks her mom was to interested on Eagan skating.

In A HeartBeat ( Summary&prediction) Blog#5

In my book "In a Heartbeat" we meet 16 year old Eagan who recently died and donated her organs including her heart. We also meet a 14 year old girl, Amelia, who is about to receive a new heart, Eagan heart. Eagan love to play basketball and also loves to collect batteries on the other hand Amelia loves to draw and hates batteries commercials but everything changes when Amelia receives her new heart. She feels different. This books take place in a small town in Arizona and takes time inn the present.

So far in my book I have met the main characters which is Eagan, the heart donor, and Amelia, the patient who receives Eagan's heart. One prediction that I think that would happen is that  Amelia would start to feel different and would want to find who the donor is. I know this because she is curious. In  the book she says "I would always ask my mother why the sky was always blue or Where do we go when we die?" This shows how she wanted to know things and soon when she received her new heart she would ask some questions.

Road Rash (Summary&theme)BLOG#4

In my book that I am ready "Road Rash", we met a 17-year-old drummer Zach. Zach has been kicked out of his band for a new drummer that doesn't play as well has him but is rich. He then joins a new band "Bad Habits". Everything is going well with the new band but there are some conflicts going on.  Zach goes out with Kyle's sister, Kimberly, which he doesn't like and doesn't let her go to any of Zach's concerts. Then there's jealousy. Kimberly gets jealous when all the girl are all up on the band and especially her boyfriend. Takes time in the present and takes place.

I think that the theme of my book is to never give up on your dreams, If a door closes another one opens. I think that's the theme because though-out the book Zach finds a way to still play drums. HE works so hard for his new band to accept him and not like his pervious band. I know this because on the day that he got accepted to the band. He had every gig already planed out. For example on the text it says," After school I fired up my computer sand made my roughed out schedule look good, with different colors showing rehearsals times and gig times and writing sessions." This shows how Zach didn't want to throw away the opportunity with his new band. He had to try his best to not let this door close like the other one.

Native American Culture

In the article "Would We be Killed", Native Americans were marginalized because of their culture. I know this because in the text it sates, " It was not Pratt’s plan to simply educate these children and teach them English. He also planned to “civilize” them—to strip them of their traditions and ways of life. Pratt believed that the children needed to completely abandon their “Indian-ness” in order to succeed in America." This proves how Pratt wanted to get rid of Native Americans because of their culture. Another example is how he changed them to be more "civilized". For example in the text it says, "Along with his new name came a new look. His long hair was cut short. His leggings and moccasins were taken away, replaced by an itchy wool uniform and black leather boots that squeaked with every step." This shows how Pratt was changing the Native American Culture to be more "civilize".

In the articles "Would We be Killed?" and "Life on the Rez" both main characters have the almost the same experience. In "Would we be killed?" Luther Stand Bear (Ota Kte) has been sent to a school where they want to get rid and brainwash their culture. IN " Life on the Rez" she is Native American but she doesn't dress like how the old Indians used to dress back when Luther was a child. Their life before the change happens they both were not that similar but once they moved that’s when all the similar things happen. For example Rez is moving to college and their isn't that much Americans Indians their so she has to adapt on living their and Luther has to move to a new school too. On the other hand at Luther school they want to change his culture and make them more "civilize" and in Rez school she isn't brainwash.

Road Rash ( Summary&character traits) Blog#3

In my book "Road Rash," we meet a seveen-teen-year-old-drummer, Zach.  Zach lives in a small town and takes place in the present. Zach is getting ready for his summer tour with his band members: Kyle the best friend,  Justin the guitar player, and Toby the lead singer. Their band is called "Sock Monkeys". While preforming, a well known band called the "Bad Habit", ask Zach to be their new drummer but, said he would think about it. When having arguments about the band, Zach was dumped by this band member Kyle. Later accepts "Bad Habit" request in having him in their band. What will happen to Zach's old band "Sock Monkeys"?

In my book "Road Rash",we have met a lot of characters. For example Zach, his family, his band members, and his small group of friends but, one character that was really interesting was one of Zach ego band member, Toby. The lead singer. I think that Toby is an ego and helpless group member of the band. In the book their is a scene where the band is late. Zach arrives with the instruments but, doesn't see any of the band members around to help him with carrying the instruments up so, he does it by himself. Then he sees Toby about to walk right by him. In the book it says, "Hey, Zach. Elevator's out mate. And kept on walking, an around each girl . He turned to the hot little blonde on his right and said something into her ear. " This is important because it shows how helpless he is to the band by not helping Zach with carrying the instruments.

Tolerance

Tolerance= The ability or willingness to allow the existence, occurrence, or practice of something, in particular the existence of opinions or behavior that one does not necessarily agree with.

I can be more tolerance by just keeping comments to my self and accepting people for who they are. In my own words I think that being tolerance means to accept others that believe in different things that are different from you. For example being a vegetarian. I have a vegetarian friend and I accept her being a vegetarian and she accepts me eating meat. Not being tolerance is like my friend forcing me being a vegetarian or the other way around.

Is It Night or Day?(Summary&theme) BLOG#2

In my last blog of "Is It Night or Day", we met a young 12 year-old Jew girl, Edith.  Edith is moving from Germany to America because of the terrible things that are going on in Germany 1938 , to Jews.  And she will be doing this all  by herself. Now that she moved from Germany to America, Edith has now have to fit in America. With school, friends, food, and jobs etc. Edith also worries about the larger issues of what she has to face and over come, but she also worries about every 12 year old girl worries about: clothes, boys, etc.  When she is in america she writes a lot of letters to her parents and her best friend Mina. Mina soon replies back saying that in Germany its been getting worst for Jews.  What will happen to Edith in america? Will she be able to get sponsors  for her family?  Will she be able to find her sitter in America?

In my book " Is It Night or Day", has a lot of themes in clouding, war, and life changes but one that really stood out was discrimination. I think that discrimination in the theme of my book "Is It Night or Day" because in the book Mina, Edith friends always sends her letters about what has been happening in Germany. For example she says "Your family was forced to leave your home in the village three weeks ago. Now they are living in an apartment building in Darmstadt with six other Jews from nearby villages, an SS guard watches the apartment day and night and sometimes the six of them must do work at local factories." This is important because it shows how in  Germany its been changing since she left from America. It also shows how she needs to find money and sponsors in order to get them out of Germany before something worst happens.

Is It Night Or Day(Summary&Conflicts) Blog #1

In my book " Is It Night Or Day”, we meet a twelve-year old girl Edith. Her family has been living through some tough times. This book takes time when Hitler was taking over Germany and other people who weren't German were discriminated; for example, Jews, homosexuals, Gypsies, and Disabled People. Edith never knew what was going on. The only thing she knew is that nobody like her and that her sister, Betty, moved to America. One day the discrimination became worse. Jews weren't able to go to public places. Like pools, cinema, or ride their bikes. So Edith parents knew that it was a sign, Vati and Mutti, were discussing on what they should do and where they should go, but the problem was that Vati mother never wanted to leave. She says," I was born in Germany and I will die in Germany." This was a big problem because if she wouldn't leave then so wouldn't Vati. So for know Vati plans is to take Edith to America. Would she ever see her parents again? Who would she live with?
In my book there is a lot of conflicts but one that really stuck out was external conflict, Man Vs. Society. I think its man vs. society because the book takes place during the time that Hitler was a live, so it was tough for Edith family since she was a Jew. For example in the book it says,"Mr. Lutz the man who owned the small movie theater just two blocks from our house, wouldn’t let me in. “Not today” he snapped, “Not tomorrow. Never, never again.” This is important because it shows how Jews were left out because of their religion. Another example is another public place where Edith would always go to, the pool. In the book it says, “Even though we were still living comfortably in our own house, a sign had gone up at our local swimming area: Jews not welcome here.” This is important because it’s another example on how unfair the Jews were treated.

Hope Was Here ( Summary&Theme)

In my last blog about "Hope Was Here", I talk about the background of the 16 year old waitresses, Hope, and her aunt, Addie, which moved from Brooklyn to Wisconsin. So far the boss G.T. (Gabriel Tomas) runs for mayor. G.T. Addie has so far has tried so hard in the job she has changed some recipes in the restaurant and had amazed G.T. They soon get together and so does Hope and the cook, Eddie. First she rejected him because her mother always told her to not date the cook but then wanted to test it out. The book takes place in the present. What will happen to G.T. would he win the election? What will happen to the couples? What would happen to G.T cancer?

In my book "Hope Was Here" there is a lot of themes through the book but one them that really stood out was hope. I think its hope because in the beginning of the book she changes it to Symbolizes her positive outlook on life. I know this because in the book she says, "People expect thing from Hopes that they don't expect from Pattys and Lisas and Danielles. People expect hopes to be cheerful and positive". This proves why she choose to name her self Hope because in her life she proves endurance and she looks forward in her life when there is a difficult situation. This is the reason why I think the theme is hope in my book “ Hope Was Here”
